During this season of gratitude, we are thankful for amazing educators like Geoff Smith!
Geoff, an 8th-grade math teacher and team lead at Ben Reifel Middle School, is this week’s SFSD All Star! 🌟
His colleague, Danyelle Cleveland, sums it up perfectly:
"Geoff is a humble servant leader who consistently meets the needs of our students, team, and his family. One of the first things you notice about him is his positive attitude—he’s always smiling and greets everyone cheerfully throughout the day. He goes above and beyond to help students achieve their academic goals, working patiently with small groups to ensure they understand math concepts. Geoff doesn’t just care about academics; he genuinely cares about people and strives to make a difference every day.”
Geoff’s dedication to students, his team, and the BRMS community makes a difference every day. Thank you, Geoff, for your kindness, leadership, and commitment to student success. 💛❤️🖤🤍
Congratulations on being an SFSD All Star!

A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 27th, through Friday, November 29th. This season reminds us how much we have to be grateful for, especially our amazing students, staff, and families! Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
Consider donating to Project Warm-Up. It directly impacts our community!
Local business owner and published author, Lawrence West from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, visited our BRMS Očéti Šakówiŋ Owáuŋspe students with a sweet treat; frybread and chokecherry wojapi. Mr. West took time to share his book "First We Harvest Then We Cook" that shows traditional Indigenous food of our area along with recipes. His book is illustrated by local and national awarded artist Ella Ratliff (LHS graduate). Students asked questions about entrepreneurship and community involvement. We are grateful to Lawrence and Sophie West for their generosity and time, to Dawn Marie Johnson for helping organize the visit, and our wonderful library staff for letting us use their space.
8th graders attended Junior Achievement at the Convention Center this week to learn about careers.
Monday, we hosted our family book club night. Thank you to everyone who attended!
Help shape the future of the Sioux Falls School District by completing a survey about the most desired qualities of the next superintendent. The SFSD School Board is using an educational leadership search firm to gather input. https://hyasurvey.com/SiouxFalls
