George McGovern and Ben Reifel Middle School seventh-grade students got a “golden” opportunity this week when actor C. Thomas Howell stopped by for a visit.
Howell played Ponyboy in the 1980s film, The Outsiders, based on the classic novel by S.E. Hinton.
The book is part of the English Language Arts curriculum for all Sioux Falls School District seventh-grade students. After reading the novel, students recently watched the film adaptation.
During his visit, Howell answered student questions, shared some behind-the-scenes stories, and encouraged students to keep reading, believe in themselves, and remember they have the power to make a difference.
The most important part of his message? To stay golden.
